Stainforth Force — also known locally as Stainforth Foss or Ribble Falls — is a scenic cascade waterfall on the River Ribble set in the Yorkshire Dales near the village of Stainforth, just north of Settle. The waterfall tumbles over limestone ledges into a broad pool, creating a picturesque and peaceful natural attraction ideal for nature lovers, walkers and photographers. In autumn, visitors may see Atlantic salmon attempting to leap upstream during their annual migration.

No booking Required. Stainforth Force is accessed via public footpaths from the nearby Yorkshire Dales Stainforth car park or the village of Stainforth. Follow the well‑signposted Pennine Bridleway route under the road and over the historic Packhorse Bridge, then a short walk through fields brings you to the waterfall. Parking at the falls itself is limited; the larger car park in the village is recommended and toilets are available there.

Daily Access: Dawn to dusk
There are no fixed opening hours for Stainforth Force as it is a natural outdoor site, but paths and access are open year‑round. The best times to visit are in spring and autumn — especially October/November for the salmon run — and after rain when the cascades are most dramatic. Paths can be muddy or slippery so suitable footwear is advised.
